POWERING PHL’S DIGITAL REVOLUTION

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has signed a contract of lease with Japanese technology firm InfiniVAN, Inc. to develop and operate the Poro Point Cable Landing Station in La Union, along with other key ICT infrastructure under the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure Project. The move is expected to strengthen the country’s digital connectivity and infrastructure.

The Poro Point facility will function as an Open Cable Landing Station, capable of hosting multiple submarine cable operators and network providers. This will enable international data traffic to enter the Philippines, connect with domestic networks, and be distributed more efficiently nationwide.

Officials say the project will improve internet capacity, expand coverage, and make connectivity more affordable and reliable for both businesses and communities. The initiative also supports the Marcos administration’s National Digital Connectivity Plan, which aims to expand broadband access, strengthen digital infrastructure, and close connectivity gaps across the country.
