The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) joined the nation on Sunday, January 25, in honoring the heroism and supreme sacrifice of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who died in the 2015 Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the PRO3 Heroes’ Monument at exactly 8:00 a.m., led by PRO3 Director PBGen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., together with members of the PRO3 Command Group and Regional Staff. The activity paid tribute to the courage, valor, and selfless service of the fallen SAF 44, whose legacy continues to inspire members of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The commemoration was conducted in accordance with Proclamation No. 164, issued by former President Rodrigo Duterte, which declared January 25 of every year as the Day of National Remembrance for the SAF 44.
A highlight of the ceremony was the reading of the message of the Chief, PNP, delivered by PBGen. Peñones Jr. on behalf of Acting PNP Chief PLtGen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. The message underscored that the sacrifice of the SAF 44 remains a constant reminder for police officers to uphold courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
“Ang kanilang sakripisyo ay hindi kailanman mawawalan ng saysay. Ito ang nagpapaalala sa atin kung bakit tayo nanunumpa at patuloy na naglilingkod,” the message read.
Similar commemorative rites were held simultaneously in police units nationwide, reaffirming the PNP’s enduring respect for the SAF 44 and its commitment to honor their memory through dedicated service to the Filipino people.
