The Stores Specialists Inc. (SSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the SSI Group, announced it will shut down all Marks & Spencer stores in the Philippines, with operations ending on May 2, 2026.
Marks & Spencer entered the Philippine market in the mid-1980s, becoming known for British fashion, food, and household products. Under SSI, the brand built a loyal following and became a recognizable fixture in the country’s retail landscape.
In a statement, SSI said, “This has not been an easy decision. Building Marks & Spencer in the Philippines has been a meaningful and rewarding chapter for our organization. We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated employees, and partners who have supported the brand through the decades.”
The closure is attributed to changing consumer preferences and evolving shopping behaviors. SSI said it will now focus on brands that align with current and future market trends. “Retail is constantly transforming. Change is inevitable, tastes evolve, and therefore so should we,” the company added.
SSI assured employees, partners, and stakeholders of an orderly transition, with further announcements regarding promotions and customer advisories expected before the May 2 closure.
