SSS promotes program to ease loan burden for delinquent members

The Social Security System (SSS) is urging delinquent borrowers to take advantage of its Consolidated Loan Program with Penalty Condonation, a key initiative designed to help members settle overdue salary and calamity loans by waiving all accumulated penalties.

SSS Luzon Central 1 Division Vice President Vilma Agapito said the program was created to assist workers whose unpaid penalties have ballooned over the years due to the two-percent monthly charge on delayed payments. She noted that some members face penalty totals exceeding ₱200,000, making repayment difficult. “Tatanggalin ang penalty at ang babayaran na lang ay principal at interest,” she emphasized.

Agapito added that the program is especially beneficial for members nearing retirement, as unpaid penalties can reduce future benefit claims. Applications must be filed through the My.SSS portal, where members can check contributions, verify records, and view updated loan balances. To qualify, loans must be delinquent for at least six months.

She reminded self-employed, voluntary members, and OFWs to pay contributions early, warning that year-end deadlines often result in long queues. Payments may be made through online channels such as GCash, Maya, SM, and other partner centers. Missing contribution deadlines creates a permanent gap in the member’s record, she added.

By helping members clear overdue loans and maintain consistent contributions, the Consolidated Loan Program is expected to strengthen compliance and bolster the social protection system for Filipino workers.
