The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., commences today, May 29, the screening for “Gawad Parangal sa mga Pinakamalinis, Luntiang, Ligtas at Kaayaayang Pamayanan (Pogi Ya Ing Barangay Ko)”, an inter-barangay contest aimed to promote sustainable programs for participatory governance, environmental management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction management.
Environmentalist and Veteran Broadcaster Cecil Yumul; Edna Marissa Simbre of Department of Environment and Natural Resources—EMB Region III; Lodislao Puno III of Department of the Interior and Local Government – Angeles City; and Lisa Juco of Office of the Civil Defense Region III initially evaluated by Barangay Virgen Delos Remedios, Tabun, and Agapito Del Rosario.
Also present during the evaluation are City Engineer Donato Dizon, Angeles City Economic Development and Promotions Officer Irish Bonus-Llego, and Angeles City Traffic Development Officer Kiko Pangilinan.
Mayor Lazatin said this project is also to “Build Back Better” communities to encourage implementation of intensively and extensively proactive, participative, sound, and sustained programs, projects, and activities on socio-economic, environmental, and risk reduction management.
The following are the prizes awaiting the contest winners:
- Grand Winner: Brand-new dump truck and ₱300,000 cash incentive
- 1st Runner-Up: ₱600,000
- 2nd Runner-Up: ₱300,000
Consolation prizes ranging from ₱100,000 to ₱150,000 will be given to non-winners, depending on the extent of what they complete.
Meanwhile, the criteria for judging are:
Urban Farm and Greening Program (35%)
Solid Waste Management and General Cleanliness Program (35%)
Disaster Risk Reduction, Peace and Order, Health and Sanitation Program (30%).
Mayor Lazatin said that the city needs programs to proactively cope with future disasters in order to further raise the resiliency of communities, institutions and sectors.
Barangays Virgen Delos Remedios Council, led by Captain Ronald Diangson, Tabun Council, headed by Alma Mercado, and Agapito Del Rosario Council, led by Judy Susan, presented their accomplishment reports to the evaluators.
