Summit Hotel Greenhills Presents ‘The Red Gallery: Tranquility in Form”

Summit Hotel Greenhills, in collaboration with Artablado, launched the second exhibit of The Red Gallery; Tranquility in Form, an exhibit by abstract artists Bettina Hagad and Maita Hagad at Summit Hotel Greenhills.

The Red Gallery is a dynamic new concept at Summit Hotels, inspired by the bold “Happy Red” color branding that symbolizes passion and cravings. This gallery initiative takes its cue from San Juan City, renowned for its vibrant art scene, and integrates it into the hotel experience.

The Red Gallery reflects Summit Hotels’ commitment to blending local culture with contemporary experiences. As modern travelers seek unique, experience-based lodging, Summit Hotels responds by weaving art and culture into its offerings. The gallery enhances the guest experience by transforming dining into a shared journey of discovery, fostering a sense of togetherness through art and food.

Under the campaign name “Art Journey to the Summit,” The Red Gallery Series will spotlight talented Filipino artists over the year, each featured for two months.
This year, we are delighted to present the 2nd Artists Bettina and Maita, sisters hail from Bacolod City and are multi-disciplinary artists whose combined skills include painting, sketching, sculpture, fashion design, fashion styling, photography, videography, print making, textiles and installation art.

Both are graduates of De La Salle College of St. Benilde. Bettina has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising while Maita graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design, major in Landscape Design.

In 2019, Bettina developed the fashion line Downtown Lavish with a partner that continues to do well. Last year, Maita studied Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Design Discovery Program.

Although Bettina sees fashion as her “true north,” she returned to painting during the pandemic and began creating lively, abstract canvases that depict activities that require the use of touch: playing dice, mazes, tic-tac-toe, abacuses and even old-school glass marbles with swirls of color in the center.

She found an audience that appreciated her works and was able to successfully sell her paintings through trade shows and by accepting commission-based work. To hone her skills in pencil work, Bettina took sketching courses at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts in August 2023.

Tranquility in Form delves into moments of peace, balance, and reflection, drawing connections to the human experience through a narrative of quietude. In this exhibit, sisters Bettina and Maita Hagad explore the boundaries between presence and absence, offering subtle yet powerful expressions of balance and restraint.

Bettina’s work studies abstraction and the habit of repetition as a therapeutic form. Hand-stitching, patchwork, and fabric manipulation laid on surfaces represent the idea of focusing on a practice that promotes well-being. Reiteration of conducive routines, much like the repetitive craftwork, has been a constant point of solace for the artist, one she wishes to share with the viewer.

Maita revisits old photographs and objects from past travels, distilling moments of tranquility. These images, imbued with personal memory and emotional resonance, transcend their role as visual references. They become catalysts for her practice, serving as the foundation for paintings that reimagine these fleeting instances through layered, evocative compositions.

Through these diverse mediums, Bettina and Maita Hagad seek to capture Tranquility in Form, revealing its capacity to transform, heal, and connect.

Robinsons Hotels & Resorts has always believed in the immense potential of Filipino artists. “Through the artworks displayed in our properties, we not only pave the way for greater awareness of the beauty and power of art but also enhance the aesthetic experience of our hotel interiors. Art has the ability to inspire, and we are proud to showcase it as part of our commitment to both culture and hospitality,” said Barun Jolly, Senior Vice President and Business Unit General Manager of Robinsons Hotels & Resorts.
