Tarlac State University (TSU) has partnered with the Kakamay Movement Organization to advance its goal of becoming a deaf-ready institution by promoting Filipino Sign Language (FSL) education and strengthening support systems for deaf students.
Under the collaboration, the Kakamay Movement Organization will conductfree FSL training, workshops, and awareness programs** for volunteer faculty members, staff, and students of the university.
TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Jasper Jay Mendoza said the initiative aligns with the university’s plan to develop micro-credentialing and capacity-building programs** focused on FSL-inclusive education and deaf support services.
“This partnership reflects our shared vision for inclusivity, innovation, and social responsibility—a synergy that will open doors for students and stakeholders to learn, lead, and make a difference,” Mendoza said.
Kakamay Movement Organization Founder General Gabinera Palma emphasized that the collaboration aims to help transform the university into a more deaf-inclusive space.
“Through this partnership, we can connect the seven spheres of society with programs developed within the academe—transforming classrooms into deaf-inclusive spaces, ensuring sustainability from education to employment, and uniting institutions in support of deaf students,” Palma said.
Beyond free FSL training and workshops, the partnership also seeks to prepare TSU for the possible offering of deaf education programs in the future.
