More than 4,000 cyclists and families gathered at the Clark Global City in Clark Freeport Zone last May 21 to join the fun rides at the PRURide Philippines 2023 which makes a solid comeback after a three-year hiatus.
“PRURide Philippines 2023 is a celebration of life with Filipino families on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle, getting the most out of life. We are blessed to be back on the road with thousands of cyclists and families pedaling towards better health and wellness,” Pru Life UK President and CEO Eng Teng Wong said during the opening of the activity.
This year’s PRURide not only marks the return of the cycling event but is a milestone as it marks Prudential plc’s 175th anniversary, including 100 years in Asia.
PRURide Philippines advocates Gretchen Ho, Kim Atienza and Zoren Legaspi were joined by Senator JV Ejercito who led the gun start for the 100-kilometer Gran Fondo category in the country’s largest cycling festival.
They were also joined by advocates and cycling content creators Jer Victor, cycling couple Darlings Levi and Sara, Jeno Cuenco, Ian Austria and cycling family Louie, Aira and Alou Lopez, among others, as well as Pru Life UK health champions Teri Rombaoa, Miguel and wife Mary Reyes, Montini De Guzman and Aless Castañeda.
Thousands of cyclists followed in batches for the 100-, 60- and 30-kilometer fun ride around the Clark Freeport that also featured the iconic Sacobia Bridge heading to the New Clark City. The event affirmed its spirit of inclusivity with fun and friendly courses for cyclists of all ages and expertise, including the Family Fun Ride and Milo Kids’ Cup.
There was also a Virtual PRURide, a digital competition where professional and amateur cyclists experienced the fun and excitement free without going out on the road. Cash prizes of Php3,000, Php5,000 and Php10,000 were awarded to the grand winners of the Virtual PRURide.
There were also booths at an expo presented by sponsors and partners such as NEO Zigma, Shimano, Lazer, PRO, Maxxis, Booster C, Milo, Traqs, Hilton, Quest Plus Hotel, Cebuana Lhuillier, Chery, Mutt Motorcycles, Foton, BCDA, Intellicare, VPPharma, Avega, Jetour, VS1, MT Helmets, Spyder, Mototek and Jack ‘n Jill, makers of Nips, Wafrets, Cream-O and Presto, and Chill, among others, while enjoying a live concert by OPM band Sponge Cola.
Pru Life UK made the celebration more special with an all-expense paid trip to London for one eligible and existing customer and three family members. The organizers also raffled off cycling equipment which includes a trainer, a Shimano group set and a bike, among others.
PRURide Philippines supports Pru Life UK’s commitment to health and wellness. Since 2016, the event has attracted thousands of amateur and seasoned cyclists, including some of the Philippines’ strongest and most competitive athletes.
“PRURide Philippines has always been more than just a cycling event. It is about or continued advocacy of health and wellness for one’s self, the whole family and the community,” Wong said.
In celebration of Prudential’s 175th anniversary, Pru Life UK will conclude PRURide Philippines 2023 by giving back to the community in Cebu with a donation of 175 bikes through JCI Zugbuanas.
The May 21 even in the Clark Freeport is the first leg of PRURide Philippines 2023. The second leg was held on May 28 at the CCLEX Food Park in Cebu.
