Uplifting Teachers, Strengthening Communities through the Power of Clothing

Education remains a cornerstone of nation-building, and in support of this mission, UNIQLO Philippines, BDO Network Bank, BDO Foundation, and the Department of Education (DepEd) have joined forces to uplift public school teachers nationwide through the global Heart of LifeWear Project. Under the local rollout of the initiative, 10,000 UNIQLO AIRism T-shirts will be distributed to teachers across the country, providing them with comfortable, everyday apparel as a gesture of support and appreciation.

A ceremonial turnover was recently held at the DepEd Office in Makati, led by UNIQLO Philippines Chief Operating Officer Geraldine Sia, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, BDO Network Bank Group Head Alberto O. Quiogue, and BDO Foundation President Mario A. Deriquito. DepEd regional officials, BDO officers, and members of UNIQLO’s Sustainability team also attended the event.

Launched globally in 2024, UNIQLO’s Heart of LifeWear Project has already donated more than one million clothing items to communities in over 28 regions worldwide. The Philippine initiative reflects the program’s core belief in the Power of Clothing—delivering not just comfort, but dignity, hope, and everyday support to those who serve their communities.

The partnership underscores BDO Network Bank’s long-standing advocacy for educators, complementing its existing programs with DepEd such as teacher loans, financial literacy initiatives, and community engagement activities. Through this collaboration, the bank reinforces its commitment to providing holistic support that goes beyond banking.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that supporting teachers directly strengthens the communities they serve, noting that even simple gestures can carry deep meaning and appreciation. UNIQLO Philippines COO Geraldine Sia shared that the initiative embodies the brand’s philosophy of creating clothing made for all, with the aim of improving daily lives. Meanwhile, BDO Foundation President Mario A. Deriquito and BDONB Group Head Alberto O. Quiogue reaffirmed their commitment to continued partnerships that uplift Filipino educators and learners alike.
