WEAVING THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE: CEBU PACIFIC CELEBRATES PHILIPPINE TEXTILE ARTS

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, is inviting Filipinos to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage with its latest tourism initiative – the QR Flight Codes – inspired by traditional weaves from various local communities.

In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute, Cebu Pacific is showcasing the artistry of Filipino weaving communities while promoting domestic tourism. The QR Flight Codes feature five unique weaving patterns from different regions of the country, serving as a tribute to the craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.

“We take great pride in celebrating our nation’s cultural heritage. By using our platform for inclusive growth, we honor the creativity of local weavers, ensuring their time-honored traditions are preserved and appreciated by all Filipinos,” said Candice Iyog, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer of Cebu Pacific.

The QR Flight Codes spotlight five traditional weaving styles: the nature-inspired Binakol from Ilocos Norte, the colorful stripes of Ramit from Occidental Mindoro, the vibrant plaid design of Hablon from Iloilo, the bold checkered Patadyong from Antique, and the geometric patterns of Yakan from Zamboanga.

These QR codes, strategically placed on billboards at major airports and highways across the country, as well as in select magazines, allow travelers to scan and learn more about the weaves while discovering the tourist destinations where they originate.

Cebu Pacific collaborated with local weaving communities, including the Paoay Weavers of Ilocos Norte, the Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro, the Baraclayan Weavers Association of Iloilo, the Patnongon Multipurpose Cooperative and Bagtason Loom Weavers Association of Antique, and the Yakan weavers of Zamboanga, to ensure the preservation of their weaving traditions.

“Each weave is a community’s cultural fingerprint, and each destination has a story to tell,” Iyog added. “We encourage every Juan to scan the QR Flight Codes, explore the Philippines, and embrace our vibrant culture.”

To further encourage exploration, Cebu Pacific is offering an exclusive seat sale, available until January 15, 2025. Travelers can book flights to all domestic destinations for as low as PHP 199 one-way base fare (exclusive of fees and surcharges). The travel period for this promotion runs from January 4 to June 30, 2025.

Cebu Pacific services 35 domestic and 27 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
