4 dead, one missing as boat capsizes in Bataan

BAGAC, Bataan — Four persons were killed while one remains missing after a fishing banca with a crew of 50 people capsized a few miles off the coast of this Bataan town.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to the maritime incident involving the F/bca “Gra Twin Sister” at approximately 18 nautical miles from the shoreline of Barangay Saysain in this town on June 23, 2022.

The PCG team departed to the vicinity of the waters off Bagac and Mariveles to conduct Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

The BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) also responded and to the arrived at the location of the capsized fishing banca to provide assistance while CGH-154 conducted aerial search operations.

Meanwhile, the PCG Sub-Station in Morong coordinated with BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) and requested assistance to recover the capsized fishing banca.

The fishing boat was recovered but the crew was missing at the time of the retrieval. A progress report on June 26 said the PCG rescued 45 uninjured individuals and retrieved four fatalities of the crew. However, one is still missing.

The SAR team advised all fisherfolk to immediately report to the nearest PCG unit if they chance upon the missing crew member. (PCG Bataan)
