CSF urges pregnant women to get vaxxed

Health authorities in the City of San Fernando are urging more pregnant women to get coronavirus jabs to protect themselves and their babies.

Last September 3, the CSF City Health Office conducted a seminar dubbed “Covid-19 Vaccination on Pregnant Women: What To Know and Why You Should Be Vaccinated” to emphasize that Covid-19 vaccines are generally safe and beneficial for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

“Maraming pregnant women pa yung natatakot at may alinlangan pang magpabakuna. Ang layunin natin ngayon ay maipaliwanag sa kanila na safe para sa kanila ang mga bakuna at makakatulong ito para protektahan ang kanilang mga sarili at pati na rin ang mga baby na nasa sinapupunan pa lamang nila,” said Jocylene Raiza C. Cruz, Public Health Nurse and Program Coordinator.

Pregnant women in San Fernando who are willing to be vaccinated are advised to secure a clearance from their obstetrician-gynecologist. Along with their identification cards (ID), they may present clearances to any of the five vaccination sites in the city which are regularly accommodating pregnant women who are now under the expanded A3 priority group for Covid-19 vaccination.

In a statement, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that based on the recommendation of local experts, COVID-19 vaccines are recommended during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. The only vaccine that should not be given to pregnant women is the Russian-made Sputnik V. (CSFP City Information Office)
