Mayor Pogi inspects computer labs construction in public schools

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. on April 17 inspected three (3) public schools to ensure the swift construction of the soon-to-rise, state-of-the art computer laboratories.

These public schools are included in the ICT Modernization Program of Mayor Lazatin, one of his campaign promises, underscoring the importance of technology in providing quality education.

Joining Mayor Lazatin during the inspection at Angeles City National High School, Angeles City National Trade School, and Northville 15 Integrated School are City Engineer’s Officer-in-Charge Helen Ayro with CEO staff Long Tayag and Architech Erika Dizon, and Angeles City Economic Develeopment and Investment Promotions Officer-in-Charge Irish Bonus-Llego.

“Alam po natin na ngayon po ay nasa digital education era na tayo. Napakalaki po ng ginagampanan ng technology sa edukasyon ng ating mga kabataan,” Lazatin said.

“Nakita po natin ang kalagayan ng ating mga computer lab, kaya sinikap po natin na maisaayos po natin kaagad ang mga ito,” Lazatin shared, who ordered in 2023 the prior inventory of the 56 public schools’ computer labs.

The city government has allotted P64 million for the construction and development of the computer laboratories.

Each of the schools will be equipped with desktop computers and smart TVs. In addition, the installation of fiber optics internet connection will be undertaken by the city government to further aid students in their studies.

Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas meanwhile said that the target completion of the construction is this year.

“We are in constant coordination for the step-by-step phases of the construction. Ang bilin po ni Mayor Lazatin, the students shall enjoy and utilize these facilities, as soon as it is available,” Calaguas said.

“Katulong po natin sa pag-check on sa inventory and construction ang ating Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, City Engineer’s Office, General Services Office, at Information and Communication Technology Division,” Calaguas added.

For his part, Engr. Edgard Domingo, Angeles City Schools Division Office Superintendent, said that “DepEd Angeles City Division is very much thankful for the computer laboratories that Mayor Lazatin gave to our different schools.”

“Maraming mga estudyante po ang makikinabang sa mga Computer Lab,” Engr. Domingo noted.

“With the current trends in education ngayon where technology is highly-valued, kapag may computer laboratory mas mamomotivate at makakapag focus sa pag-aaral ang mga bata using computers,” Engr. Domingo added.

One of the flagship programs of Mayor Lazatin ever since he took office is providing access to quality education.

To recall, the city government also recently opened to the public the first-class Angeles City Library and Information Center in Barangay Sto. Rosario in March 2024, with its state-of-the-art technology that offers a wide range of resources to its amenities including spacious reading areas, comfortable seating, computer working stations, and improved facilities.
