SM Foundation turns over upgraded Basa Air Base Hospital in Pampanga

SM Foundation has completed the second phase of renovations at Basa Air Base Hospital in Floridablanca, Pampanga, further enhancing the facility to support both military personnel and their dependents. The 17-bed hospital, initially renovated in February 2015 to meet Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth accreditation standards, now offers an even more streamlined and sustainable healthcare environment.

The hospital provides essential services, including general medicine, surgery, internal medicine, EENT, ECG, X-ray, laboratory services, ambulatory care, preventive medicine, and aeromedical support. Recent upgrades include LED lighting, energy-efficient inverter appliances, and air-purifying paint, aimed at boosting functionality and reducing energy use. Layout improvements have also connected the Emergency Room, Reception, and Out-patient Department for a more efficient patient experience.

In a step towards digital healthcare, SM Foundation introduced SM DigiKonsulta, enabling virtual consultations and digital medical record management. This initiative aligns with PhilHealth’s digitalization goals and is supported by new laptops provided to the hospital, making Basa Air Base the first military hospital to implement SM DigiKonsulta.

“Healthcare is essential to human well-being and is the foundation of strong, resilient communities. Yet, access to adequate healthcare remains a challenge for many,” said Connie Angeles, SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs. “Recognizing this need, we are dedicated to refurbishing health facilities to ensure quality care for both military and civilian populations.”

Beyond Basa Air Base Hospital, SM Foundation has renovated 41 military healthcare facilities nationwide, including 19 for the Philippine Army, 12 for the Philippine Air Force, nine for the Philippine Navy, and one for the Philippine Marines. The foundation has also transformed over 204 community health centers and conducted over 1,625 medical missions, serving both civilian and military communities across the Philippines.
