Angeles City has secured back-to-back recognition for disaster preparedness and resilience, earning a “fully compliant” distinction in the 24th Gawad Kalasag Awards on November 28, 2024. This achievement highlights the effective strategies and proactive measures implemented under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.
The mayor expressed gratitude for the dedication of the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), led by Rodolfo Simeon. “We are very proud of this achievement. Maraming salamat po sa dedikasyon at walang sawang pagtatrabaho ng ating team sa pagseguro sa kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan,” Lazatin said.
The Gawad Kalasag Awards, a national benchmark for excellence in disaster risk management, recognize exemplary practices among local government units across the Philippines. ACDRRMO Chief Simeon shared that this recognition reinforces their commitment to enhancing safety and resilience in the city. “This award motivates us to continue to ensure safety and resilience against disaster,” Simeon stated.
This marks the second consecutive Gawad Kalasag Award for Angeles City under Mayor Lazatin’s administration. In 2023, the city was also declared fully compliant, underscoring its sustained efforts in disaster risk reduction and management.
