France has launched an ocean conservation campaign in the Philippines ahead of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in June. The initiative, “100 Days for the Ocean,” aims to create a climate-themed artwork using 1,600 solar-powered lamps made from recycled bottles and solar recharging systems.

French Ambassador Marie Fontanel emphasized the urgency of addressing the climate crisis and highlighted France’s commitment to collaborating with the Philippines in the fight against climate change. The project also aims to raise awareness about preserving marine ecosystems.

The campaign will involve monthly collaborations between civil society, NGOs, universities, the private sector, and French agencies to create the lanterns. The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Manila Call to Action on Climate Change. (PNA)
