The Mabalacat City Government (MCG), led by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has reaped numerous recognitions during the recently concluded regional Gawad Parangal sa Nutrisyon 2021, held December 21, 2021 in Lubao, Pampanga.
The award aims to recognize provinces, towns, and cities in their implementation of nutrition programs and best practices, contributory to the national government’s pursuit to improve the nutrition situation of infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and other vulnerable groups across the country.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC), the Philippines’ highest policy-making and coordinating body, accorded the following citations and awards to the city: NNC Natatanging Parangal; One of the Top 5 LGUs featured in the Compendium of Local Nutrition Ordinances; MCG Nutrition Scholar Luchelle Lacson bagging the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar – City Level (Winner), and the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar – Regional Level (2nd Runner-Up); and the 2nd Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award in which Mabalacat City is the lone recipient from Pampanga.
The awards were formally received by Mabalacat City Nutrition Action Officer Joronny Aragon-Lingat, along with the entire City Nutrition Office (CNO) from NNC-Region III Nutrition Program Coordinator Ana Maria Rosaldo, DOH-Region III Center for Health and Development Nutritionist/Dietician Margarita Natividad, and the rest of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team.
In his acceptance message, Mayor Crisostomo Garbo lauded the NNC and the Department of Health for hailing his administration’s efforts in promoting good nutrition and well-being among his constituents.
“We consider these awards and recognitions as a concrete manifestation of our consistent and successful health, nutrition, and social services being among the pillars of my administration which are contributory to our pursuit in building a strong, a competitive, and a vibrant Mabalacat City,” said Mayor Garbo.
“We dedicate these recognitions to all the local government units and nutrition offices in the country, who have been staunch in fulfilling their mandates as vanguards of good nutrition and well-being despite being engaged in difficult situations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the city mayor added.
