Senator Alan Peter Cayetano emphasized the nation-building power of sports as he rallied support behind the countryβs hosting of the FIVB Menβs World Championship 2025 during βSpike for a Cause,β a fundraising dinner and fashion show for the Philippine menβs volleyball team, Alas Pilipinas.
βEvery single value we want for our countryβteamwork, discipline, sacrificeβis found in sports,β Cayetano said in his speech. βThis event isnβt just about giving thanks. Itβs about building a better Philippines.β



As co-chair of the tournamentβs local organizing committee (LOC), Cayetano highlighted how sports values echo in families, schools, businesses, and communities. βFrom anti-drug efforts to youth development, sports is one of our strongest tools.β
He thanked fellow LOC co-chair Vincent Marcos, early backers of the Philippinesβ bid, and partners from the business, fashion, and media sectors, calling their collaboration βa powerful example of unity for a national cause.β
βThis isnβt just a fundraising eventβitβs a statement of who we are as Filipinos,β he said. βWe rise to the occasion. Whether itβs the SEA Games, basketball, or now volleyballβwe will showcase the best of the Filipino.β
The senator also urged prayers for peace and the tournamentβs success. βPrayers move mountains,β he said. βLetβs offer our support for all the athletes and organizers involved.β
The 2025 FIVB Menβs World Championship will mark the Philippinesβ first time to host the prestigious global event, welcoming 32 national teams to compete before Filipino and international audiences.
