The NLEX Corporation, in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), local governments of Valenzuela and Meycauayan, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), has intensified cleanup and clearing operations to address flood risks along the expressway and nearby communities.

The initiative follows a coordination meeting led by DOTr Secretary Vince B. Dizon on August 2, where NLEX identified 11 waterways obstructed by debris, contributing to recent flooding in Valenzuela, Meycauayan, and portions of NLEX. Joint clearing operations began on August 4 and are now in full swing, with regular inspections to fast-track progress and ensure long-term solutions.

On-site inspections were conducted by Sec. Dizon, NLEX OIC and MPTC CFO Luis ReΓ±on, MPTC Chief Regulatory Officer Arrey Perez, TRB Executive Director Jay Art Tugade, and Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian. β€œAll-out effort ito ng lahat ng stakeholders… we have to take advantage of the good weather to clear these waterways before another heavy downpour,” Dizon said.

To support the effort, NLEX has deployed around 120 personnel daily, along with heavy equipment such as amphibious backhoes, barges, boom trucks, and dump trucks to restore water flow. The company has also bolstered its multi-layered flood control measures to protect motorists and surrounding communities.

β€œThis collaboration reflects our shared commitment to combat flooding and improve road safety,” said ReΓ±on, thanking DOTr for leading the initiative.

NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, reaffirmed its dedication to long-term flood solutions in partnership with national and local agencies.
