DPWH Chief to Zaldy Co: Return, face charges

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has reiterated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for resigned Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co to return to the Philippines and answer allegations over supposed ghost and substandard flood control projects.

“Anyone can go on Facebook Live. The real test is whether he will come home or not,” Dizon said on Wednesday. “If he comes home, as the President said, we can face each other. Come home and face the music.”

Dizon issued the statement after the DPWH and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) filed cases before the Office of the Ombudsman against several lawmakers allegedly linked to irregular contractors.

Aside from Co, those charged include Representatives Edwin Gardiola, James Ang Jr., Jernie Jett Nisay, Augustina Pancho, Joseph Lara, Noel Rivera, and Francisco Matugas. They face complaints for plunder, graft, and bribery.

Ombudsman Samuel Martires said the evidence submitted by the DPWH and ICI has been instrumental in strengthening and fast-tracking the case against the so-called “Congtractors.”
