Filipino Shipmates Monument unveiled

The Filipino Shipmates monument along Waterfront Road in Subic Bay Freeport Zone was inaugurated on January 14, 2026, honoring the legacy of Filipino sailors who served in the U.S. Navy.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño recognized the United States Sailors Alliance of the Philippines (USSAP) for spearheading the monument, which commemorates Filipino-American naval history and the enduring friendship between the two nations.

“Subic has long been a bridge connecting our nations. This monument shows the strengthening of that bond and reminds future generations of the vital role Filipinos played in safeguarding peace across the seas,” Aliño said.SBMA

The monument symbolizes the dedication of over 35,000 Filipinos recruited by the U.S. between 1901 and 1991, particularly through naval bases at Subic Bay and Sangley Point. USSAP has also preserved this history through initiatives such as the Filipino Shipmate statue in Olongapo City.

Present at the unveiling and ribbon-cutting were Olongapo City Mayor Atty. Rolen Paulino Jr., BCDA Director Rolen Paulino, USSAP officials, and representatives from the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.

The Filipino Shipmate monument stands as a tribute to the courage, service, and legacy of Filipino sailors in U.S. maritime forces.
