ABOITIZ SCHOLARSHIP EMPOWERS FUTURE LEADERS

Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., together with Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., has launched the Aboitiz Future Leaders Program in Baguio City, marking the program’s first rollout in North Luzon and extending opportunities to students in underserved communities.

Under the program, 12 students from Baguio City received scholarship grants that include financial assistance, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences in the technology and creative sectors. The scholars formally received their grants from Aboitiz Foundation, represented by its Impact Lead for Education Jowelle Ann Cruz.

The Baguio launch reflects the expansion of the Aboitiz Future Leaders Program beyond Metro Manila, bringing education and leadership development closer to students in regional areas.

“The program aims to equip scholars with not just academic support, but also values formation and exposure to real-world challenges, helping them build resilience, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose,” said Noreen Vicencio, First Vice President and General Manager for Hydro Operations at Aboitiz Renewables. She added that the initiative hopes to inspire scholars to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Scholars receive a monthly stipend, gadget allowance, and academic incentives, including bonuses for Latin honor graduates. The program also provides board examination support, mentoring, and internship opportunities to support holistic development beyond the classroom.

Ruth Jedidiah Durolfo, a journalism student at the University of the Philippines Baguio, said the scholarship opened new possibilities for her. “Aside from my family, the Aboitiz Foundation believed in me. They saw our potential long before many of us could see it ourselves,” she said.

Addressing the pioneer batch, Cruz said the scholars represent a new chapter in bringing the program’s mission to more communities nationwide. “Your selection reflects your potential, your grit, and the opportunities ahead of you,” she said.

Aboitiz Renewables, the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), operates nine run-of-river hydropower plants across Benguet. Through education and livelihood initiatives, the company continues to support inclusive growth in its host communities, in line with AboitizPower’s mission of transforming energy for a better world.
