Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara met with House Deputy Speaker and Zambales 1st District Congressman Jay Khonghun yesterday at the House of Representatives to address urgent educational needs in the district.
The discussion focused on classroom shortages, support for teachers, lack of learning resources, and improvements to school infrastructure across Olongapo City, Subic, Castillejos, and San Marcelino.
Rep. Khonghun described the meeting as productive, highlighting the importance of collaboration to ensure students in the First District receive quality, accessible, and future-ready education. “Education remains our strongest investment for the next generation,” he said.
Sec. Angara assured his office’s readiness to provide funding for necessary projects, coordinating closely with Rep. Khonghun’s team to prioritize school needs in the district.
Classroom shortages remain a nationwide challenge for DepEd, making coordinated efforts with lawmakers vital to accelerate budget allocation and implement timely solutions at the local level.
Both officials emphasized their commitment to supporting schools in Zambales’ 1st District and advancing programs that strengthen education quality for students across the region.
