SM Supermalls across the country came together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) with a nationwide initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, SM Cares. The campaign, titled “SM is All for Down,” highlights SM’s commitment to creating inclusive spaces where everyone is welcomed, respected, and valued.

Observed every March 21 to recognize the triplication of the 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome, the global awareness day became an opportunity for SM to amplify advocacy in its malls nationwide, engaging communities in meaningful, synchronized activities.


One Mic, One Message: Real Voices, Real Inclusion
Central to the campaign was “One Mic, One Message: For the Down Syndrome Community.” Standing microphone installations were placed in every SM Mall, inviting employees, frontliners, and customers to share heartfelt messages for persons with Down syndrome.
Messages ranged from simple affirmations to declarations of respect and belonging:
- “You belong here.”
- “You are seen, valued, and respected.”
- “This space is for you, too.”
Mall Managers closed each session, emphasizing that inclusivity begins with leadership and is nurtured at every level of the organization.
Inclusion in Action: Training and Everyday Practice
SM also reinforced its commitment through comprehensive Sensitivity Training for mall teams, tenants, security personnel, janitorial staff, and all customer-facing frontliners. Watch parties and “All for Down” guide posters promoted proper assistance, respectful communication, and dignified support for persons with disabilities, embedding inclusion into daily operations.
Building a Nationwide Movement
The March 21 activations lead up to a larger event: the SM Cares Happy Walk on March 29, expected to gather over 6,000 participants nationwide. Families, advocates, employees, and partners from Luzon to Mindanao will unite to celebrate ability, dignity, and belonging, demonstrating SM’s year-round support for the Down syndrome community.
Through initiatives like “SM is All for Down,” SM Cares reinforces that inclusion is central to how SM creates experiences—for customers, families, and future generations.
