Globe restores services, probes fiber cuts

Globe Telecom announced that mobile and broadband services in affected areas of Metro Manila and parts of Luzon have been fully restored following a network disruption caused by multiple fiber cuts on May 12.

Customers in several cities across Metro Manila and nearby provinces, including Rizal, experienced intermittent issues involving calls, text messaging, and internet connectivity before services normalized at around 10:30 p.m. after restoration efforts by Globe’s technical and network teams.

According to Globe Senior Vice President for Service Planning and Engineering Joel Agustin, initial investigation showed that underground fiber optic cables in Paco, Manila were damaged during drainage excavation works conducted by a subcontractor of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The excavation reportedly resulted in multiple cuts to critical fiber optic lines that affected service delivery in several areas.

Globe said it is conducting a broader investigation into the incidents, including determining whether the fiber cuts in various locations were accidental or carried out in succession.

The company added that it is coordinating with contractors, local government units, and concerned government agencies to establish accountability and strengthen infrastructure protection and incident response protocols.

Globe also thanked customers for their patience and assured the public of its continued commitment to providing reliable and resilient connectivity services.
