Recalling the role of media during Pinatubo

Pampanga Press Club Chairman Noel Tulabut recalled the vital role of the media in informing the public about the dangers posed by the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption and the devastating lahar flows that followed.

Speaking during the 35th anniversary commemoration of the eruption at Holy Angel University, Tulabut also cited the coverage of veteran journalists Bert Basa and Jay Sangil, whose reports helped keep communities informed during the disaster.

Joining the forum were Punto editor Bong Lacson, veteran broadcaster Cecil Yumul, and Pinatubo expert Chris Newhall, a former United States Geological Survey (USGS) official.

The event was organized by DOST-PHIVOLCS and Holy Angel University through its Center for Kapampangan Studies.
