NLEX strengthens flood preparedness for rainy season

NLEX Corporation has intensified its safety and maintenance measures ahead of the rainy season to ensure safer travel and uninterrupted expressway operations during severe weather conditions.

The company completed the clearing of drainage systems during the dry months and readied pumps and detention tanks in Balintawak and Paso de Blas, Valenzuela, to help manage heavy rainfall.

In support of the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha program, NLEX also conducted clean-up operations in key rivers and creeks in Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Manila. From January to May, teams removed garbage and accumulated silt from heavily clogged waterways to improve water flow and reduce flooding risks.

To further enhance emergency preparedness, NLEX pre-positioned portable flood barriers, rescue boats, and other critical response equipment in vulnerable areas. Additional early-warning cameras were also installed at strategic creek crossings to allow real-time monitoring of water levels and faster deployment of response teams.

NLEX President and General Manager Luis S. Reñon said the company continues to work closely with government agencies and local government units to ensure coordinated responses to weather-related disruptions.

Emergency and traffic management teams will remain on full alert throughout the rainy season to safeguard motorists and maintain efficient traffic flow along the expressway.
