Pamanuli: Madrid Quing Culiat showcases Kapampangan heritage

The “Pamanuli: Madrid Quing Culiat” art exhibit officially opened on Monday at the Mall Atrium of Newpoint Mall, bringing the works of acclaimed Kapampangan artist Manuel Madrid closer to the public.

The week-long exhibition, which runs until July 12, highlights Kapampangan culture, traditions, and identity through Madrid’s collection of paintings that reflect the journey back to one’s roots.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by JDN Marketing Head Chito Gomez, artist Manuel Madrid, and JDN Leasing Officer Joy Pamintuan.

A native of Guagua, Pampanga, Madrid is an architect, theater actor, and visual artist whose works celebrate culture, spirituality, and Filipino identity. Rising from humble beginnings, he financed his education through various jobs and art competitions before earning his architecture degree. His artworks have since been featured in major national and international events, including the 2017 ASEAN Summit and the 2020 SEA Games, while his pieces have been exhibited in museums across the country and collected in Canada, France, Taiwan, Australia, and the United States.

Now recognized as one of Pampanga’s leading contemporary artists, Madrid has mounted 13 solo exhibitions and received awards from the Art Association of the Philippines. His works have also been acquired by prominent figures, including First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda, and Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

The exhibit is open to the public from July 6 to 12 at the Lower Ground Floor Atrium of Newpoint Mall, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the rich artistic heritage and enduring pride of the Kapampangan people.
