Family comes first for Pampanga’s young breadwinners

For many young breadwinners in Pampanga, financial success is no longer just about earning and saving—it is also about protecting the loved ones and responsibilities that depend on them.

The 2025 Consumer Finance and Inclusion Survey of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas found that while 68% of Filipino adults are knowledgeable about insurance, only 10% have voluntary life insurance and fewer than 10% have non-life insurance.

A BDO Life Financial Advisor, Lady, recalled the story of a young businessman in his 30s who initially believed he did not need life insurance. After securing coverage as a Plan B for his business and his upcoming marriage, he suffered a fatal heart attack weeks before his wedding. The insurance helped his fiancée and family settle financial obligations, while his employees received separation pay when the business eventually closed.

For Lady, the experience underscored the importance of preparing for the unexpected.

“We know exactly when we’re born,” she said, “but we can never predict how long we will live.”

The story reflects a growing shift among young breadwinners, including Kapampangans, who are beginning to view insurance as part of financial preparedness alongside savings, investments, and emergency funds.

Through BDO Insure, customers can access non-life insurance options covering medical expenses, travel, homes, vehicles, and businesses. Meanwhile, BDO is offering qualified deposit account holders complimentary life insurance coverage until July 31, with deposits of at least ₱500,000 eligible for ₱1 million in coverage and deposits of ₱1 million or more eligible for ₱3 million in coverage, subject to program terms.

Those interested in learning more about BDO Life and BDO Insure protection plans may visit the nearest BDO branch or check the bank’s website for more information and online quotes.

The BDO Fiesta is also set for August 1 at SM City Pampanga.
