When flooding once again disrupted communities including Pampanga, two Kapampangans turned compassion into action — Mekeni Food Corporation President Pruds Garcia and Chef Felix Niño Asuncion, initiators of the Ripple of Hope Community.
Building on last year’s relief effort, which provided more than 8,000 packed meals to families affected by storms, Garcia and Asuncion once again rallied volunteers, donors, partners, and the Mekeni team to bring food and assistance to communities in need.
This year’s effort has so far delivered 6,770 ready-to-eat meals across Pampanga, according to Chef Felix. Each meal was made possible by people who shared their resources, volunteered their time, prepared and delivered food, and helped connect the initiative to communities needing assistance.
Garcia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Asuncion for his selflessness, leadership, and dedication, while reminding him and fellow volunteers that those who serve must also be cared for.
“The compassion we extend to others must also begin with the people beside us,” Garcia said.
He also thanked everyone who responded to the call to serve—from those who donated and made pledges, to volunteers who braved difficult conditions to deliver meals to evacuation centers, the Mekeni team that worked with urgency, and those who offered prayers for the safety of everyone involved.
A packed meal may seem simple, but behind each one are countless hands, generous hearts, quiet sacrifices, and sincere prayers — a powerful expression of the Kapampangan spirit of bayanihan.
As Pampanga braces for another typhoon, the Ripple of Hope continues to carry a simple message: compassion becomes more powerful when shared, and one act of kindness can inspire another.
One meal can bring comfort. One act of kindness can create a ripple. And when that ripple continues to grow, it can reach thousands of lives.
