TMCC steps up mental health efforts

Behind many community concerns are struggles that often remain unseen—and The Medical City Clark (TMCC) is looking to help change that.

During News@Hues, a media forum staged by the Pampanga Press Club in partnership with Park Inn by Radisson Clark, TMCC officials shared plans to strengthen the hospital’s mental health initiatives amid growing concerns over mental health in the community.

TMCC Chief Nurse Bernice Bernabe said the hospital is laying the groundwork for broader mental health engagement programs, recognizing the growing need for services that address emotional and psychological well-being.

Hospital Director Earline Borlongan also highlighted the stigma surrounding mental health in the Philippines, noting that it can discourage people from seeking professional help. Many, she said, may hesitate to openly discuss feelings of depression, stress, or other mental health concerns.

TMCC currently has two in-house mental health specialists and is assessing local needs as it works to expand accessible mental health and other medical services.

The initiative reflects the hospital’s efforts to make mental healthcare more accessible and compassionate, while encouraging a community where seeking help is viewed not as a source of shame, but as an important step toward healing.
