Angeles City’s newest coffee hangout opens
By Angeleños. For Angeleños. With Angeleños. It is around this premise that KAPEBALUAN, the newest coffee place in Angeles City was built.
Kapebaluan was officially inaugurated on Thursday, March 17, by Angeles City mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr., Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, City Engineer Donato Dizon, Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer-in-Charge Irish Bonus-Llego, Erma Manalo, Officer in Charge of Angeles City Library and Information Center, other officials and department heads, and Coffee farmer Fidel Carbungco.

Not long after he took the reins as the top executive of the city, Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin made a surprising discovery: that there were actually Angeleño farmers growing green arabica beans in Angeles City – Sapangbato and Margot, specifically.
Motivated to extend assistance to these farmers, who, like everyone else, were downed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Lazatin and his administration began exploring ways to introduce the locally-produced coffee to a larger market.
And one sure way to achieve this was to build a home base where the coffee may be offered for coffee lovers to enjoy. Thus, the idea of putting up a unique coffee shop started brewing, and Kapebaluan was conceived.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel took the lead Manuel in conceptualizing and constructing the café, with Chief Tactician IC Calaguas and City Engineer Don Dizon. Meanwhile, chief Irish Bonus-Llego and her ACEDIPO staff will manage the café.
For Angeleños
Kapebaluan offers the Angeleños the opportunity to savor homegrown delicious coffee.
Mayor Lazatin said,“While we aim to enable them to put food on the table, we also want to showcase our very own organic coffee. Kayang-kaya makipagsabayan ng kapeng Angeleño sa mga international brands,” Lazatin said.
The homegrown, organic coffee will go very well with Angeleño-produced baked goodies and sweets.
Aside from enjoying the coffee and the treats, Kapebaluan guests may also read any of the growing variety of books available in every cozy corner.
With Angeleños (and beyond)
Angeleños may savor what’s in offer at Kapebaluan with fellow Angeleños and their friends and family from within and beyond Angeles City.
The unique Angeleño brand of hospitality will surely urge guests to come back for more of what’s in offer: coffee (kape), non-coffee (alang kape), tea (pang marimla), signature (tatak), and barista. There are 19 flavors to choose from.
Bonus-Llego mentioned the city purchased from the Angeleño farmers 92 kilos of arabica beans which will be mainly used at the café.
Coffee to go
Kapebaluan coffee beans may be brought from the café, and are also available at the Angeles City One Town One Product (OTOP) store.
Book donations
All of the books on display at Kapebaluan have been donated. Book donations are still accepted.
Mayor Lazatin has also asked the help of the National Library to provide books for the café.

Notice has been served. The word is out. Kapebaluan is open. Enjoy coffee, with goodies and a good read, or even quiet time at Kapebaluan – the newest coffee chill spot to be in.
