Lea Salonga makes Hollywood History

Broadway icon Lea Salonga has made history as the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, earning the landmark’s 2,855th star.

The star was unveiled Sept. 4 in front of the historic Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, with fellow Disney icons Ming-Na Wen and Brandy, and Filipino American Broadway star Darren Criss, among those attending the ceremony.

In her speech, Salonga described the milestone as a “full-circle moment,” reflecting on her journey from a young performer in the Philippines to the world’s biggest stages and screens.

She also celebrated the growing presence of Filipino and Asian artists in Hollywood and expressed hope that her achievement would inspire young Filipinos to pursue their own dreams.

“I hope that someday a young Filipino kid comes to Hollywood, sees my name, and thinks, ‘Oh. Maybe I can get here too,’” Salonga said.
