The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to undertake immediate flood mitigation works along critical waterways in San Fernando City as part of efforts to protect communities during the rainy season.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency will take advantage of favorable weather conditions to immediately implement interventions, including dredging and desilting of waterways and repair of damaged floodwalls in identified areas.

Among the priority sites is Magliman Creek, where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the installation of deeper sheet piles and the raising of retaining walls to help prevent creek overflow and protect residents of Villa Del Sol and nearby communities.

Dizon inspected the area with San Fernando City Mayor Vilma Caluag and identified sections requiring urgent action, covering areas from Telabastagan, Alasas, San Isidro, and St. Jude Village to Cabalantian.

The DPWH said the interventions are aimed at improving water flow, strengthening flood-control structures, and reducing flooding risks in vulnerable communities across the city.
