A celebration of identity, diversity, talent, and LGBTQ+ pride took center stage as Angeles City crowned its first-ever Babaylan Ning Angeles 2026 on October 17 at Lapid Arena.
More than a beauty competition, the historic pageant provided a platform for self-expression, cultural appreciation, and empowerment, celebrating individuals who proudly embrace their identities and share their stories with the community.
Taking home the inaugural crown was Amalia of Pulungbulu, making history as the first Babaylan Ning Angeles. Joining her in the winners’ circle were Aiyan of Anunas, first runner-up; Naedine of Sta. Teresita, second runner-up; Jem of Margot, third runner-up; and Kim Park of Pampang, fourth runner-up.
Honoring Heritage, Embracing Identity
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of the babaylan—figures historically associated with leadership, healing, spiritual guidance, and the preservation of cultural knowledge—the event bridged traditional heritage with contemporary expressions of identity.
Through its modern interpretation, Babaylan Ning Angeles opened a space for a new generation to express its creativity, celebrate individuality, and stand confidently in its truth.
For the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, the pageant underscored the importance of creating inclusive spaces where everyone can be seen, heard, respected, and celebrated. It also highlighted how diversity enriches communities and strengthens the shared understanding of equality and belonging.
Beyond the glamour, performances, and crowning moment, the celebration carried a deeper message: a person’s worth is not defined by a title or a crown, but by the courage to live authentically, the determination to pursue one’s purpose, and the willingness to use one’s voice to inspire others.
Building a More Inclusive Angeles
The Angeles City local government, with the support of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” B. Lazatin II, continues to recognize the value of initiatives that promote inclusion, equality, cultural appreciation, creativity, and the empowerment of every Angeleño.
The inaugural pageant marked an important step toward establishing a tradition where cultural heritage and contemporary identity converge, giving more people the opportunity to express themselves and contribute meaningfully to the community.
As Babaylan Ning Angeles begins its journey, its message resonates beyond the stage and the crown: everyone deserves a place where they can live with dignity, take pride in who they are, and have their stories valued.
Because in a community that embraces diversity, every identity matters, every voice deserves to be heard, and every Angeleño belongs.
