Converge ICT Solutions Inc. co-founder and CEO Dennis Anthony Uy has called for greater transparency and accountability in government, warning that corruption and bureaucratic red tape could derail the Philippines’ digital transformation and economic growth.
Speaking at the 52nd Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&E) on October 14, Uy stressed that good governance is crucial to attracting investments and maximizing opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
“Today, global investors and foreign partners are knocking on our door, eager to do business with the Philippines. They see our location, our workforce, and our potential. The opportunity is right in front of us. But let us be honest: our old habits are getting in the way. Corruption holds back our progress. Red tape chokes our small businesses,” Uy told business leaders.
He emphasized that the country’s growing digital ambitions must be backed by transparent processes, accountable institutions, and policies that encourage innovation and investment.
Uy welcomed government initiatives, including Executive Order No. 119, series of 2026, establishing a Data Residency Framework, and the creation of a Center for AI Research to strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem and global competitiveness.
Converge has been working closely with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) to advance digital innovation. In 2025, the company helped bring together more than 85 local and international technology brands at the PBC&E to showcase ICT solutions for Philippine businesses.
Joining Uy at the conference were PCCI President Perry Ferrer, PBC&E Chairman Butch Guerrero, PCCI Chairman Jude Aguilar, and other business leaders.
His call for stronger governance came amid growing public concern over corruption and rising prices, with a Pulse Asia Ulat ng Bayan survey released October 15 identifying corruption and inflation as Filipinos’ top two concerns.
Uy underscored that transparent governance and a business-friendly environment are essential to turning the Philippines’ digital potential into sustainable economic progress.
