Kapampangan Officer Maj. Gen. Edgar Lising Catu earns promotion

From selling pan de sal along the dusty streets of Sto. Rosario, Mexico, Pampanga, to becoming a two-star general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Maj. Gen. Edgar Lising Catu’s journey reflects resilience, determination, and an enduring commitment to public service.

As shared in a Facebook post by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Elmer G. Cato, Catu’s recent designation as Commanding General of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and promotion to Major General mark another milestone in his distinguished military career spanning more than three decades since graduating from the Philippine Military Academy’s Maringal Class of 1995.

Beyond his military accomplishments and academic credentials, including a PhD in Peace and Development and a master’s degree from the University of Sydney, Catu is recognized for his people-centered leadership.

Drawing from his own experience of hardship, he brought empathy and compassion to conflict-affected communities in Mindanao, championing peacebuilding through dialogue, community engagement, and inclusive development.

His initiatives included facilitating the peaceful resolution of community conflicts, supporting the reintegration of former combatants, and helping build classrooms and strengthen dialogue in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Catu’s journey stands as an inspiring example of the Kapampangan spirit—resilient, compassionate, and dedicated to nation-building, proving that true leadership is measured not only by rank but also by service and positive impact on people’s lives.
