Ana Aboitiz Delgado named first woman president of Bankers Association

The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) has elected UnionBank President and CEO Ana Aboitiz Delgado as its president for the 2026–2027 term, marking the first time a woman will lead the organization in its nearly 80-year history.

Her appointment comes as the banking industry faces rapid digital transformation, the growing integration of artificial intelligence, and increasing exposure to global economic and geopolitical risks.

Delgado has served as UnionBank’s president and CEO since January 2025, following more than two decades with the institution where she led initiatives in digital transformation, consumer finance, SME and institutional banking, and customer experience design.

In her statement, Delgado emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing emerging challenges in the financial sector.

“As we accelerate digitalization and unlock the potential of AI, we also face a next generation of risks that extend beyond individual institutions and national borders,” she said, noting the need to strengthen industry-wide standards and maintain public trust in the financial system.

The BAP, which represents the country’s universal and commercial banks, plays a key role in promoting financial stability, aligning industry practices, and fostering cooperation across the banking sector.
