The Angeles City government, led by Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. rolled out the list of events and activities for the National Arts Month (NAM) in support of the annual celebration of arts and creativity this February.
The Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO) headed by Anneleen Sugui will open the month-long celebration with a visual art exhibit dubbed as KAPANÁYAN on February 1, 2023 featuring the works of 36 local artists.
Among the artists exhibiting their works are Norman Tiotuico, Badet Tiotuico, Iwag Palattao, Chelssie Avensis Caldina, Kalila de Pio, Sim de Pio, Marylou Lilibeth Millan Dumas, Edwin Dizon Catli, May Ann Reyes, Jojo La Madrid, Orlando Tolentino, Arnold Salunga, Dallas Harvison, Maricar Yabut-Sangalang, Ailyn A. Gonzales, Ann Lumba-Vitug, Cyril Quizon, Andy Ramos, Aurelio De Guzman, Billy Corcuerra, Arnel David Garcia, Alvin Dungca, Enrie Nicdao, Ronald Buenacifra Jr., Lyndon Joseph Susi, Jascha Tolentino, Ramil Tumampos, Jeffrey Querido Gabatin, Vittorio Pantig, Banjing Torno, Joel Pábústan Mallári, Elizabeth Sison, Camille Joy Pingul, Joel G. Tubera, Jessica Julia Jose – Cariño and Jonathan Pili.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel said the exhibit, which will be held at MarQuee Mall, will be open to public viewing from February 1 to 12, 2023.
ACTO will also hold an on-the-spot painting featuring local artists on February 9, 2023 at Santungan Ning Kalalangan, Abacan Loop.
“This year, ang bibigyan natin ng pansin ay yung mga artists na dapat madiscover dahil sa talent na mayroon sila. Aside sa celebration, this is also a call to our fellow Angeleños to support local designs and crafts,” Manuel said, who is also an art advocate.
Meanwhile, four markers of cultural properties will be unveiled on February 7, 2023 which includes the Bahay ni Angel Pantaleon De Miranda, Bahay ni Ciriaco De Miranda, Deposito ni Jose Pedro Henson y Leon Santos, and Bahay ni Rafael Yutuc Sr.
ACTO also has lined up a series of workshops for aspiring artists starting with an Artist Talk and Print Making Workshop by Elmer Borlongan on February 11, 2023 at the Theatre, 3rd Floor, Angeles City Library and Information Center, to be followed by an Art Workshop on February 17, 2023 at Museo Ning Angeles, and concluding it with a Basic Kulitan Workshop on February 24, 2023 at CACA Art Gallery, 2nd Floor, Angeles City Library and Information Center.
A musical concert by the Sunlag Ensemble and Songwriters Cabalen will finish off the National Arts Month celebration.
Presidential Proclamation No. 683 signed in 1991 has declared February as National Arts Month. This year’s festivities will revolve around the theme “Sining ng Pag-asa” (Art of Hope).
