Angeles City to publish book on local art scene

In keeping with his dedication to assist homegrown artists, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. announced that the city government will shoulder the publication of a coffee table book that would chronicle the Art Movement in Angeles City and the province of Pampanga for the past 40 years.

Mayor Lazatin formally expressed this in a letter he sent to Angeleño painter and a Kapampangan language and indigenous script (kulitan) advocate Norman Tiotuico, whose love for his language is matched by his love for his art.

In a meeting with Tiotuico, Mayor Lazatin vowed to help the local artists who are recovering from the effects of the pandemic. Also present in the meeting were the mayor’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Angeles City Tourism Officer-in-Charge Anneleen Antonio-Sugui.

Meanwhile, with the aim of uplifting the cultural scene in the city and to develop cultural awareness among Angeleños through art, a mural will be installed at the Santungan Cultural Hub Project under the Abacan Bridge.

Mayor Lazatin also asked malls to provide a venue to feature the work of various local artists on a monthly basis.

Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel with Antonio-Sugui already met with the mall managers to discuss the initiative.
