BFP and SM hold a simultaneous nationwide fire drill

SM Supermalls, the country’s largest chain of malls, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), conducted a nationwide simultaneous fire drill in more than eighty (80) SM Supermalls on March 13.

With the theme “Sa pag-iwas ng sunog hindi ka nag-iisa,” the fire drill in highly dense areas like SM Supermalls is one of the highlights of the celebration of Fire Prevention Month 2023 by both BFP and the SM Group.

SM North Edsa as well as SM malls in Central Luzon, including SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Olongapo Downtown, SM City Pampanga, SM City Clark, SM City San Fernando Downtown, SM Telabastagan, Savemore Market Apalit, SM City Tarlac, SM City Cabanatuan, and SM Megacenter Cabanatuan, joined the fire drill.

The partnership of BFP and SM Supermalls is one of the ways in which SM amplifies its commitment to contribute to the creation of risk-resilient societies and promote a global and national culture of disaster risk reduction and resiliency. The public-private partnership (PPP) of SM and BFP gives priority to the constant training of SM’s personnel to respond to disasters, including earthquakes and destructive fires. This will help ensure the safety of SM’s stakeholders, including customers, tenants, employees, nearby communities  and the general public.

This partnership demonstrates the progress made by the two entities in preventing disaster risks and losses of lives, livelihoods, and health—in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.

SM, as a member of ARISE—Philippines, the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies, which is led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), commits to promote a global and national culture of disaster risk reduction and resiliency.
