The Provincial Government of Bulacan has started the dredging of rivers and creeks in the province on September 5, 2022 to mitigate flooding.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando said while dredging is not the permanent solution, it can help prevent extensive flooding in Bulacan.
“Paglalagay talaga ng dike ang permanenteng solusyun sa pagbaha. Pero pansamantala, habang hindi pa nasisimulan, ito muna ang ginagawa para maibsan and paghihirap ng mga tao,” Fernando said during an inspection of the dredging activity.
The dredging is being conducted in Barangays Bulihan, Barilan, Santissima Trinidad and Mojon, all in the City of Malolos.
The governor met with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) who committed to build dikes, pumping stations and flood gates, and elevate river walls in Bulacan.
Present at the inspection of the project were Vice-Governor Alexis Castro, Congressman Danilo Domingo and Hagonoy Mayor Flordeliza Manlapaz where they discussed possible solutions to the extensive flooding.
Meanwhile, Fernando called the attention of all Bulakenyos to do their part in protecting the environment by not disposing of garbage waste in rivers.
