The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has approved the request of Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez for the allocation of P205 million to improve and renovate the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
In a letter to Benitez dated April 24, 2025, CAAP Director General Lieutenant General Raul del Rosario confirmed that P205 million has been earmarked for the Bacolod-Silay Airport Development Project under the agency’s 2025 Corporate Operating Budget (COB).
The funding covers P200 million for the improvement and expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), aimed at increasing capacity in the check-in and pre-departure areas to meet growing passenger demand. An additional P5 million has been set aside for the widening of the access road leading to the Fire Station Building (FSB).
Del Rosario also noted that the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has committed to funding the asphalt overlay of the airport’s existing runway to ensure safe aircraft operations.
In February 2025, Mayor Benitez formally requested P200 million from CAAP for the airport’s improvement and renovation.
Currently, CAAP is also implementing a P45 million rehabilitation project for the Bacolod-Silay Airport’s PTB, addressing outdated and deteriorated materials. This project is expected to be completed by December 2025.
Mayor Benitez expressed his gratitude following CAAP’s approval of the new funding.
“I thank CAAP for approving and allocating P205 million for the Bacolod-Silay Airport upgrade. This, along with TIEZA’s support and the ongoing P45 million terminal rehabilitation, brings us closer to a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airport for Bacolod and the rest of the province,” Benitez said.
He emphasized the city government’s commitment to ensuring the successful completion of these projects for the benefit of the public.
