ANGELES CITY — Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. commended the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) for their swift and effective response, highlighting the success of the city’s enhanced CCTV surveillance system in ensuring public safety.
“This incident shows how our advanced CCTV system helps in crime prevention and resolution, making our city a safer place,” Mayor Lazatin stated.
An armed encounter at KOA Hotel, Brgy. Anunas, Angeles City on February 18, 2025, left one suspect dead and another arrested after police quickly responded to suspicious activity flagged by the city’s new surveillance system.
The suspects were identified as an unidentified male wearing a black jacket, who was killed during the encounter, and Alexander Jake Ador Ting of San Pedro II, Magalang, Pampanga, who was wounded and arrested.
They were seen roaming Korean Town on a black Aerox motorcycle without a license plate, following reports of suspicious individuals linked to recent snatching incidents in the area.
Personnel from Police Station 4 (PS4) and the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) of ACPO were dispatched for surveillance and later confronted the suspects along Amur St.
When police officers PMSg Rommel L. Nool and PSSg Amiel Nino Gomez identified themselves, the back rider allegedly drew a pistol and attempted to shoot but failed. In response, PMSg Nool fired back, resulting in the death of the driver and wounding of Ting.
Recovered from the scene were a US COLT Cal. 45 pistol with a partially defaced serial number, a magazine containing six live bullets, one chamber-loaded live bullet, and one fired bullet. The suspects’ motorcycle matched the description captured in CCTV footage, confirming their involvement in the reported incidents.
An on-site inquest was conducted by Prosecutor Joseph M. Quiambao, while the Angeles City Forensic Unit led by PLT Leo Gones processed the crime scene. The wounded suspect was transported to a nearby hospital by personnel from the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO).
The city government continues to prioritize public safety through strategic investments in technology and close coordination with law enforcement agencies.
