Cesar Chavez has announced his irrevocable resignation as Acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), effective February 28, 2025, or earlier upon the appointment of his replacement.
“To use a broadcast parlance, I will be signing off as Acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office,” Chavez said on Thursday, confirming that he submitted his resignation to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on February 5.
Despite stepping down, Chavez expressed continued support for the administration’s vision, stating that he would pursue endeavors outside government while remaining in public service. He thanked the President for the trust and the opportunity to serve, calling it the “honor of a lifetime.”
“Although there is much for which I am grateful and many people to thank, I leave with only one regret: in my estimation, I have fallen short of what was expected of me,” Chavez admitted, without specifying the reasons for his resignation.
Malacañang has yet to announce his successor.
Chavez was appointed PCO Acting Secretary in September 2024, replacing veteran journalist Cheloy Garafil, who now heads the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan. He also previously served as Undersecretary for Railways at the Department of Transportation.
