CONG. POGI LAZATIN FILES RESOLUTION HONORING MABALACAT MATH PRODIGY

Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. has filed a resolution commending Casty Santiago, a Grade 5 student from Don Bosco Academy of Pampanga, for winning a silver medal in the International Mathematics Olympiad for Southeast Asia (IMOCSEA) National Round held on August 9, 2025.

“With this achievement by Casty, once again we have shown to the world the skill of young Kapampangans,” Lazatin said, stressing the importance of formally recognizing Santiago’s accomplishment and his representation of the province.

Santiago will advance to represent the Philippines in the IMOCSEA International Round on December 19–22, 2025in Osaka, Japan. The IMOCSEA, an international mathematics competition, covers Arithmetic, Number Theory, Logical Analysis, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Algebra across multiple academic levels.

This comes after Lazatin also filed a resolution earlier this month lauding Liam Casey Opulento, a 14-year-old Grade 9 student of the Philippine Science High School–Central Luzon Campus, who secured a silver medal at the 6th Copernicus Olympiad held in New York City.
