A recovered COVID-19 patient wrote an appreciation letter to nurses and health workers from Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center. The letter, with which was attached with a P150 tip, delighted the medical staff.
The letter reads:
“To frontliners and staff,
Greetings!
My pleasure to write a letter to all of you. We would like to extend our gratitude to all of your sacrifices, efforts, and time. Amidst the pandemic, you are still doing your work to help Covid-19 patients.
Thank you for the accommodations, nutrition, food, and for a clean room.”
According to Alfie Maniti, Head Nurse, Community Isolation Units, the sincerity of the letter written by the patient, who requested anonymity, and instead indicated her facility room number (308) brings joy to health workers, as they continue to help in the difficult battle against COVID.
“Kapag ganong pagkakataon po ay sobrang natutuwa po kami, pero higit doon, yung simple at sinserong salamat,” Maniti said.
Nursing attendants — Ashley Ann Otano and Arlene David — who were also assigned at the hotel where the letter was left, said “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to take care of you. We hope that you were able to experience many positive things with our team. With sincere appreciation, we hope that you will continue to entrust us with your health.. and lives. Thank you so much. God Bless you always.”
“I do really appreciate you for trusting us and for giving us the privilege to serve you and take care of you during your battle with Covid-19. It also helps us practice our ability to serve our fellow citizens. Hoping that you will continue to trust us.. We do appreciate you in trusting your lives on us. God bless you always.”
Maniti, who has been serving at the RLMMC for 3 years and seven months, said this is not the first time that a patient left food or monetary tip in their room upon discharge.
“Hindi na po iba sa mga community isolation ang makatanggap kaming mga medical staff at hotel staff ng pakunswelo sa mga pasyente. Kadalasan po pagkain pero misan may mga nagbibigay din ng pera sa mga hotel staff,” he added.
Fatima Orfinada, Hotels And Restaurants Association in Pampanga President, agreed to this.
“There are even patients who leave the tip (any kind) at the front desks of hotels,” Orfinada said.
Further, Maniti shared that it is not about tip but the simple appreciation from the patients, reminding them to have faith, be healthy and safe in their service.
“At yung sabihan nila kami na mag ingat lagi at pinagdadasal nila,” he said.
“Sobrang nakakapawi po ng pagod at nakakamotivate na pagbutihin pa ang aming trabaho. Sobrang malaking pasalamat namin sa lahat ng aming pasyente sa mga ganitong pagkakataon sa kanilang pagintindi sa amin,” Maniti added.

Meanwhile, a local vlogger named Edmar Batac, another recovered COVID-19 patient, featured on his vlog his experience and gratitude to the city’s health workers and hotel staff’s efforts in helping him with his recovery.
