In time for the celebration of “Araw ng Kagitingan,” the City Government of San Fernando unveiled an improved Death March marker site in Barangay Sto. Niño.

The redesigned Death March site, which immortalizes the valor of Filipino soldiers during the World War II, is a neater, wider, and more ecological and tourist-friendly as compared to its old version.

City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan said that among the changes done in the site were the beautification of the main marker and the list of World War II Veterans. More plants and chairs were also placed around the area.

Philippine Veterans Bank officials, led by First Vice President Mike Villa-Real, witnessed the event. Villa-Real commended the City for the project, citing “it is a show of historical concern and priority to the heroism of war veterans from a local government unit that may draw people near history.”
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago also urged the heritage and culture pillars and advocates to visit the site in front of Old San Fernando Train Station that played a vital role during the World War II and Death March.
The project is part of the City Government’s program on heritage preservation. (CSF CIO)
