The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 206.6-lineal meter flood control structure along the Rio Chico River in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, aimed at protecting residents and farmlands from potential flooding.
Located in Barangay Macamias, the project was implemented in two phases: the first phase involved constructing a 79-lineal meter river wall, followed by an additional 127.5-lineal meters in the second phase.

DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st OIC-District Engineer Jun Vana highlighted the project’s importance in mitigating flood risks, protecting properties, and sustaining agricultural lands by reducing the impact of recurring floods.
Built on steel sheet piles and reinforced with concrete coping and gabions, the flood control structure is designed for long-term durability and resilience.
Funded with ₱47.8 million from the 2024 national budget, the project strengthens flood protection measures for communities along the riverbanks.
