Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a flood control structure along the Peñaranda River in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.
The Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office implemented the project which measures 429.6 lineal meters that is located in barangay Pias.
District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said the P48.5 million infrastructure was funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
It complements the existing flood mitigation structures built by DPWH which now serves as a defense against flooding often caused by river overflow.
The project involves the construction of concrete slope protection with steel sheet pile foundation.
“We designed this flood control structure with a maintenance road that barangay personnel can use for patrolling the river during emergency flood prevention activities,” Trinidad furthered.
Residents can also use the dike road as an alternate route to nearby sitios or neighboring barangays. (PIA 3)
